Govt to help develop skills of rural ''Dak Sewaks''

Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal today said the government will help 3.25 lakh Gramin Dak Sewaks develop skills as well as capacity through a time bound Rural Entrepreneurship Programme.
"Skill and capacity of 3.25 lakh Gramin Dak Sewaks will be developed through a comprehensive and time bound Rural Entrepreneurship Programme. This program is being finalised by Department of Posts and Ministry of Human Resource Development together," Sibal said.
He conferred the Meghdoot Awards on postal employees for 2009 and 2010. The Minister expressed the confidence in the ongoing transformation projects that will help India Post to match the evolving technologies and changing lifestyles.
Addressing the gathering, Gurudas Kamat, Minister of State of Communications and IT stressed upon the importance of the role of Post Offices in the implementation of the schemes meant for common man, be it disbursement of wages, pension or Unique Identification Number.
The scheme of National awards known as ''Meghdoot Awards'' was instituted in 1984.
The awards, which include Rs 11,000 are given for outstanding contribution in the sphere of official work in eight individual categories.
